The Rifle, Colorado area is considered by many to be the best place in the country to go hunting with its proximity to the Flat Tops Wilderness Area and the White River National Forest.  This area has the largest elk herd in the country at almost 280,000.

Flat Tops Wilderness Area

The Flat Tops Wilderness Area is a few miles N/NE of Rifle and stretches for 235,214 acres – it’s  the second largest Wilderness Area in Colorado and offers the largest elk herd in the world with a cow to bull ratio of 4:1.

White River National Forest

The White River National Forest is 2.3 million acres of public land containing 10 mountain peaks that reach over 14,000 feet, eight wilderness areas and 2,500 miles of trail – the White River National Forest  is a playground for the perfect pursuit.  


Rifle  is located in the center of the bulls-eye for the best fishing in the country with the Colorado River flowing directly through town, in addition to other rivers, lakes, creeks, ponds, and reservoirs that are home to very large fish.  Rifle is also close to the Roaring Fork River, Frying Pan River, Eagle River & Crystal Rivers… all Gold & Blue Medal Waters that are within a 30-60 minute drive from town.  The trout-filled waters of the White River, 300 lakes on the Grand Mesa and 100 lakes on the Flat Tops make Rifle and the surrounding area a fisherman’s paradise.
